In case you don’t know the story -
In 2021, after hearing me mention that I would like to learn how to ollie, my son, Miles, bought me a skateboard for Christmas. Excitedly, I asked my friend Camille to make me two sweatshirts, one for myself and one for a friend whose kids had also bought her a skateboard. They said “Moms Skate Club” on them. Mine arrived in late February, days after Miles had died.
In 2023, on Miles’ birthday we offered the sweatshirt for sale and the response we received was tremendous. It felt good to have something to smile about on such a sad day, something that felt inspired by him and that he would have liked.
In our first year we were able to support the OnSite Foundation, a facility that offers crucial support to survivors of trauma. In our second year our proceeds went to the Make Life Skate Life organization, a non-profit that seeks to make skateboarding accessible to underserved youth around the world. Inspired by their work, we have decided to donate the money raised this year to the skate park where Miles cut his teeth, a spot that is in desperate need of repair. My hope is to allow it to continue to operate as a space for folks to gather and do something they love, together.
The sale of this item will run from 10am CT June 26th to June 29th 11:59 CT. All proceeds collected will be donated. This is a pre-order item, sweatshirts are made to order and will take approximately 3-4 weeks to ship.
Thanks for taking the time to read this, and especially to anyone who considers purchasing one. This is a small thing, we know, but it’s meaningful to us, Miles’ friends and family, so from the bottom of our hearts, thank you.
